Connecting Carers: Hume Carers Group

The Connecting Carers: Hume Carers Group is a weekly support group running from March to November 2025 at Homestead Community and Learning Centre, Roxburgh Park, aimed at providing a safe and inclusive space for unpaid carers from multicultural backgrounds in Hume. In collaboration with the Australian Multicultural Community Centre, Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL) and Hume City Council, the project seeks to reduce social isolation, enhance emotional well-being, and build a strong support network for carers. Consultations with over 60 carers highlighted challenges such as caregiver burnout, stigma, and limited access to culturally appropriate services. With over 24,000 unpaid carers in Hume, many from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds, this initiative will empower carers by fostering social connections, knowledge-sharing, and self-care opportunities. The group aims to create a sustainable support system beyond 2025, ensuring carers receive the recognition and assistance they need.
