Anti-Racism Project: Unity in Diversity

Active

Supported by Victoria, Unity in Diversity empowers multicultural communities.

Anti-Racism Project: Unity in Diversity

The Unity in Diversity initiative is proudly supported by the Victorian Government through the Local Anti-Racism Initiatives Grants Program 2024–26. Victoria is one of Australia’s most culturally diverse states, with over 1.5 million residents born overseas and more than 200 nationalities represented. In Hume, around 40% of residents were born overseas, and over 160 languages are spoken at home, reflecting a vibrant multicultural and multifaith community.

About the Program
Unity in Diversity celebrates culture, promotes inclusion, and strengthens community connections through arts and storytelling workshops, educational programs, peer mentoring, and social worker support.

The program empowers residents, especially:

  • Emerging multicultural leaders

Participants can share their voices, learn about their rights, access support services, and develop leadership and advocacy skills.

A key part of Unity in Diversity is the mentoring program, delivered with support from the AusMCC Social Workers Team and local community partners:

  • One-on-one mentoring and support

  • Guidance during storytelling and arts workshops

  • Assistance with understanding rights, services, and referrals

  • Confidence-building and leadership development

Partnerships & Funding
This initiative is delivered in partnership with:

  • Northern Community Legal Centre

  • Hume City Council

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Victorian Government for funding this project, enabling us to tackle racism, empower communities, and foster a more inclusive and connected future.
